Overview
On Fjord Mountain Route, Utladalen is a true gem in the fjord region, connecting the Øvre Årdal to the high mountains. The deep, varied valley is absolutely stunning with its impressive waterfalls - most of all the famous Vettisfossen - steep mountain faces and ever changing views.Description
Utladalen is one of Norway’s most dramatic and beautiful valleys, located on the western edge of Jotunheimen National Park near Årdal. Surrounded by steep mountains, wild rivers and lush cultural landscapes, the valley offers a striking blend between fjord nature and high mountains.
For centuries, people lived and farmed here, and the historic farms of Vetti and Avdalen still tell the story of life in this remote mountain valley. Along the walk from Hjelle towards Vetti, you pass several impressive waterfalls before reaching Vettisfossen, one of Northern Europe’s highest unregulated waterfalls.
