Tunnelvegen and Tusenmeteren form a spectacular historic mountain road between the Tyin area and Øvre Årdal. Built through dramatic mountain terrain, the road once played an important role in connecting Valdres with inner Sogn and in the development of industry in Årdal.
Today, the old road is a memorable route for cyclists, combining gravel roads, mountain scenery and fascinating engineering history. At Tusenmeteren, around 1,000 metres above sea level, you are rewarded with impressive views down towards Øvre Årdal. From here, the road continues through a series of tight hairpin bends towards the valley below.
