Overview

Departure: Fridays, 10:00 - 13:00

Description

Experience the calm and tradition of ice fishing in the winter landscapes around Beitostølen. After a short introduction from your guide, you’ll head out onto a frozen mountain lake to try your luck. This authentic Norwegian activity combines peaceful surroundings with excitement, and offers the unique possibility to enjoy your catch of the day around a cozy bonfire.

Highlights

  • Try a traditional Norwegian winter activity in stunning mountain surroundings
  • Enjoy the calm atmosphere of a frozen lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks
  • Gather around a cozy bonfire and enjoy your catch, if luck is on your side

Your guide will meet you at the Beito Aktiv Ski School office, where you’ll receive a brief introduction to ice fishing and the equipment used. From there, you’ll head out to a frozen lake—often Øyangen—surrounded by snow-covered mountains and peaceful winter scenery.

Once on the ice, your guide will demonstrate how to drill a hole and prepare your fishing line. Then it’s your turn to try. Ice fishing is a traditional Norwegian method where you fish through an opening in the ice, offering a unique combination of relaxation and anticipation as you wait for a catch.

This experience is perfect for families, friends, and anyone looking to slow down and connect with nature. With a bit of luck, you may catch mountain trout, which your guide can prepare and serve as a simple, delicious meal around a cozy bonfire.

All necessary equipment is provided, and depending on snow conditions, snowshoes may be used to reach the fishing spot. Your guide will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, sharing tips and local knowledge along the way. No previous experience is required, just dress warmly and enjoy this authentic winter tradition.
